(achtung, Werbung für meine Arbeit, aber weils so cool ist, kann ich wohl nicht anders :-) || (for the first time: a posting about my work)
******
Aber was will man mit so vielen verschiedenen Themen machen?

On Oct 8, the first communication network using unbreakable encryption based on quantum cryptography will be demonstrated in Vienna, Austria.

Picture by "Die Drahtwarenhandlung" for ARC
The network consists of six nodes and eight intermediary links with lengths between 6km and 82km. The keys for encrypting the communication are generated and distributed with quantum cryptography over standard telecommunication fibres and “free-space” (along a line of sight between two telescopes). Various quantum technological devices for generating keys are integrated into the network over standardized interfaces.
The network is the main result of the European Integrated Project SECOQC („Development of a global network for secure communication based on quantum cryptography“), lead by the Austrian Research Centers – ARC GmbH, which after four and a half years of successful research and cooperation will reach its finishing line.
The demonstration of the communication network using quantum technologies takes place on the first day of a three-day-scientific-conference where the most renowned scientists in the field will recapitulate the world-wide technological state-of-the-art as well as future trends for quantum cryptography.
The demonstration will also be streamed on the Internet (the link is posted on the project website: www.secoqc.net).
